Police are investigating a possible drowning at a South Kohala home

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning in South Kohala.

At 6:34 p.m. on December 5, officers responded to a report that an unresponsive man had been pulled out of a pool at a private home off South Kaniku Drive.When police arrived, Hawaiʻi Fire Department medics were transporting the victim to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital.

He was pronounced dead Monday (December 12) at 3:58 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Gavaskar Atyam of Redmond, Washington.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
