The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Friday (Dec 8) for Hawaii Island summits above 12,000 feet.

Ice, snow and freezing drizzle is forecast for the summit areas. A total snow accumulation up to six inches and ice accumulation up to 1/4 inch is expected. Southwest winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast along with temperatures ranging from the low 30s and highs near 40ºF. Visibility will be below 1/4 mile at times.

Driving and hiking conditions on the summit will be hazardous.
