Police locate a Honokaa man wanted for violating terms of bail

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 52-year-old Derek Liu of Honokaʻa, who was wanted on bench warrants.

Liu was found in Keaʻau at 1:30 a.m. Monday (December 19) and arrested and charged with two counts of violating terms of bail.

Two days after police put out a December 2 media release asking for the public’s help in locating Liu, he became the subject of a missing person investigation when his Zodiac boat was found floating a mile off the coast in the Kohala Estate area.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 52-year-old Honokaʻa man who is wanted for violating terms of bail.

Derek Liu is described as 5-foot-10, 165 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
