Hawaiʻi Island police are advising the public to be aware of large numbers of runners on major highways between Hilo and South Kohala on Friday and Saturday (October 14 and October 15).
The runners are participating in the Ragnar relay race, which began on Friday and is scheduled to run until Saturday or until the relay runners complete a 200-mile course.
The course began at Bayfront Highway and ends at the Hāpuna Prince Hotel.
The route includes Hawaiʻi Belt Road, Kohala Mountain Road, ʻAkoni Pule Highway, Kawaihae Road, Highway 19, Waikoloa Road and Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway.
In addition to runners, motorists should watch out for support vans.
