Police seek witnesses to auto theft in Hilo

Hawaiʻi Island police are seeking witnesses to the theft of a car from a parking lot in Hilo.

On Tuesday (August 2), a 40-year-old woman reported that her gray 2005 Toyota 4-door sedan had been removed for the parking lot at Sack ‘n’ Save on Kanoelehua Avenue.

Investigation led to the identity of a suspect, 33-year-old Jessica Nasario of Hilo.

Nasario and the stolen car were located Wednesday (August 3) in the Wainaku area of Hilo. Police arrested her and took her to the Hilo police cellblock while they continued the investigation.

At 11:15 a.m. Friday (August 5), she was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a harmful drug, promoting a detrimental drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and carrying a deadly weapon. Her bail was set at $7,250. She remains at the cellblock pending her initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (August 8).

Police ask anyone who witnessed the theft or who has any information about this case to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line a 935-3311 or contact Officer Donovan Kohara at 961-2272 or donovan.kohara@hawaiicounty.gov.
