Tropical Storm Howard weakens as it moves west

The National Hurricane Center reports Tropical Storm Howard is moving west through the Eastern Pacific.

As of 5 p.m. HST Tuesday (Aug 2) the center of Howard was located about 1,385 miles (2,230 km) west of the southern tip of Baja California moving west-northwest at 15 mph (24 km/h). Maximum sustained winds have weakened to 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center.

Some weakening is forecast over the next two days and the system may become a post-tropical cyclone by Thursday.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
