Police are investigating an assault in Puna Monday (July 25)

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for information about an assault Monday (July 25) in Puna.

At 10 p.m. Monday, Puna Patrol officers responded to an anonymous report of a man on the side of Upper Puna Road in the Kalapana Black Sands subdivision.

Officers located an unresponsive 44-year-old man who was bleeding about the head area. He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment and later flow to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he is listed in stable but critical condition.

Police ask anyone with any information about this case to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Todd Pataray at 961-2382 or todd.pataray@hawaiicounty.gov or Detective Clarence Davies at 961-2383 or clarence.davies@hawaiicounty.gov.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the island wide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
