Hawaiʻi Island police are asking the public for help in identifying individuals or businesses who are responsible for the dumping of abandoned and derelict vehicles. Since January 1, approximately 280 abandoned or derelict vehicles have been reported in the Kona District alone, compared with 106 reported during the same period in 2015.

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:38 p.m. alarm Thursday (June 23) t0 14-3507 Lehua Road in Puna for a structure fire. Crews arrived to find a tri-level home on fire with about 50-70 percent burning. There was a partial collapse to some walls and the roof.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.75/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.34/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
