Fire destroys Puna home Thursday afternoon (June 23)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:38 p.m. alarm Thursday (June 23) to 14-3507 Lehua Road in Puna for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a tri-level home on fire with about 50-70 percent burning. There was a partial collapse to some walls and the roof.

Firefighters were able to have the fire under control by 4 p.m. and it was declared out at 5:23 p.m.

The 1,368 square foot home consisting of a double-walled wood frame, post and pier construction with corrugated metal roof with a lanai and deck was reportedly destroyed due to the extensive fire and smoke damage. The loss was estimated to be $136,800.

There were no injuries reported in the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
