Woman dies after two vehicle crash in Glenwood Friday (June 17)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 5:01 p.m. alarm Friday (June 17) for a two vehicle crash near the 21 mile marker of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in the Glenwood area.

Crews arrived to find a crash between a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a small compact sedan. Both vehicles had extensive front-end damage.

The female driver of the sedan was extricated by an off-duty fire department captain who then administered CPR, she was later declared dead. An infant in a car seat was also taken from the vehicle and transported via ambulance to Hilo Medical Center. The male driver of the pick-up was not injured in the crash.

The roadway was closed to traffic during the police investigation of the crash scene and was reported to be open at about 10:30 p.m. Weather conditions at the time of the crash was reported to be clear with no rain on the highway. The crash continues to be under investigation by police.
