During the week of June 6, 2016, through June 12, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 504 DUI arrests compared with 456 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 650 major accidents so far this year compared with 682 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.7 percent.
So far this year, there have been nine fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 10 fatalities, compared with eight fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 11 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 12.5 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 9.1 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
