Kailua-Kona man and woman caught with drugs in stolen rental car

A man and a woman face multiple charges after being found in a stolen car.

At 8:03 a.m. Monday (June 6), Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious car near a walking trail between Kealakehe Parkway and Keanalehu Drive in Kona.

The officers observed a gray Nissan 4-door sedan and determined that it had been stolen from a rental car company in Kailua-Kona.

They arrested the driver, 37-year-old Jeremy Pilgrim of Kailua-Kona, and his passenger, 34-year-old Rita Reeves of Kailua-Kona, and recovered packets of methamphetamine from Pilgrim’s person. The two were taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives recovered methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia associated with the use and distribution of illegal drugs from the stolen car.

At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Pilgrim was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, meth trafficking, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $80,000. Reeves was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a detrimental drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $6,250.

Both remained at the cellblock until their initial court appearance on Wednesday (June 8).
