MEDIA RELEASE
Parker School students in grades 4 and 5 impressed judges during their recent science fair held at Parker’s lower school. Students began their project with a question, which they researched; they then formed a hypothesis to answer the question, tested it and provided a conclusion, all over a two-month period. Parker ‘ohana, as well as scientists from Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, served as volunteer judges who reviewed each of the 36 student submissions. Winners were determined by how accurately they followed the scientific method process. The following is a list of the top winners and their work:
5th Grade
- 1st Place: Nai’a Jones – “Static Shock†– to determine how to limit static electricity.
- 2nd Place: Ellie Acosta – “Soap and Radiation†– to determine if the brand of soap or ingredients in soap make a difference when exposed to radiation via microwaves.
- 3rd Place: Andrew Choi “Experience and Exposure to Sound†– to determine if experience and exposure helps with identifying sounds.
