Winners of the Parker School 4th and 5th grade science fair

MEDIA RELEASE

Parker School students in grades 4 and 5 impressed judges during their recent science fair held at Parker’s lower school. Students began their project with a question, which they researched; they then formed a hypothesis to answer the question, tested it and provided a conclusion, all over a two-month period. Parker ‘ohana, as well as scientists from Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, served as volunteer judges who reviewed each of the 36 student submissions. Winners were determined by how accurately they followed the scientific method process. The following is a list of the top winners and their work:

5th Grade

  • 1st Place: Nai’a Jones – “Static Shock” – to determine how to limit static electricity.
  • 2nd Place: Ellie Acosta – “Soap and Radiation” – to determine if the brand of soap or ingredients in soap make a difference when exposed to radiation via microwaves.
  • 3rd Place: Andrew Choi “Experience and Exposure to Sound” – to determine if experience and exposure helps with identifying sounds.

  • 3rd Place: Skylar Pinkert “Science of Colors” – to determine if men and women have different feelings about colors and if color influences mood.

Parker School wishes to congratulate all contestants for their fabulous work.
