Police DUI stats for the week of March 28-April 3, 2016

During the week of March 28, 2016, through April 3, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested fourteen motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 289 DUI arrests compared with 241 during the same period last year, an increase of 19.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 362 major accidents so far this year compared with 378 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been five fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in six fatalities, compared with four fatal crashes (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in six fatalities, during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 25 percent for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
