A PADI Course Director is the scuba diving industry’s most influential leader and role model. This highly respected professional rating is not easy to come by.

After three weeks of travel and training, Shannon Shea of Jack’s Diving Locker in Kona, Hawaii returned from Koto Kinabalu, Malaysia successfully completing the PADI Course Director Training Course (CDTC).

Shea states, “The CDTC was an intense experience. I met a lot of great, like-minded people from over 25 different countries, and we worked together and shared an amazing learning experience. I’m looking forward to applying my new knowledge to our upcoming IDC.”

Shea will conduct IDC’s or Instructor Development Courses at Jack’s Diving Locker – a PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Resort with a long history in professional and recreational scuba training.

To qualify for the Instructor Development Course, prospective candidates must complete certifications for Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, CPR/1st Aid, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster (the first professional certification).

Candidates then must complete the Instructor Development Course, Instructor Exams, and an additional instructor certification in CPR/1st Aid before the application process is complete for the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Shea started her diving career as a 12 year old Junior Open Water Diver to join her family on dive travel adventures in places like the Red Sea, Micronesia, and the Great Barrier Reef.

As an adult, she completed her PADI Divemaster working out of Cairns, Australia in 2010.

She then moved to Kona and completed her IDC to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor in 2010. She continued working on her professional certifications with PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (2011), PADI IDC Staff Instructor (2012), PADI Master Instructor (2015), and finally PADI Course Director (2016).

The recent trip to Malaysia was the pinnacle to a very long journey in pursuing the highest and most respected PADI rating – Course Director!

PADI Course Director Shannon Shea will be at the Jack’s Diving Locker PADI Pro Night 6-8 p.m. Thursday April 7, 2016 to meet, greet, talk story, and celebrate.
