The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood watch for Hawaii Island through this afternoon.

An upper level trough over the state will create instability that will interact with the daytime heating and moisture. Heavy showers and thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding will be possible today as a result.

Hawaiʻi Island police detectives have completed their investigation into the 2013 discovery of a body in Hilo.

On January 18, 2013, police discovered a badly decomposed body off the “ATV Trail Park” near Stainback Highway in Hilo. The body was identified through dental records as 38-year-old Shayne Yoshi Kalani Kobayashi of Pāhoa.
