Army detonates suspicious device found at Ka‘u charter school

Hawaiʻi Island police are continuing to investigate a suspicious device found Wednesday (February 10) at a charter school in Kaʻū.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday (February 11), the U.S. Army’s Explosive Ordnance Detail from Oahu removed the suspicious device and took it to a safe location, where it was detonated. Preliminary tests conducted were inconclusive as to the contents of the device.

The investigation is continuing.
