The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Nicholas McDaniel as “Officer of the Month” for February in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (February 3) at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

Sergeant Zachary Houchin described Officer McDaniel as “the catalyst” for the Kona Patrol Division’s Felony Warrant/Special Enforcement Task Force, which was formed to address outstanding felony warrants and crime trends in Kona, such as burglaries, robberies, thefts, auto thefts and auto break-ins.

McDaniel was assigned to the Task Force in October.

“Since Officer McDaniel’s recent assignment, he has been a team player with an outstanding attitude,” Houchin wrote in nomination papers. “He is energetic, intelligent, decisive, focused and efficient in doing his part in assisting in accomplishing the goals of this task force.”

McDaniel was previously named “Officer of the Month” in January 2013 and January 2014. As “Officer of the Month,” he is eligible for “Officer of the Year.”

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawaiʻi.
