MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii County Civil Defense audio message on Kohanaiki Beach

The State Department of Land and Natural Resources and US Coast Guard report that a small boat had run aground yesterday in the area of the Kohanaiki or Pine Trees Beach. Due to hazardous conditions with debris and leaking fuel the immediate area of the beach has been closed and swimmers and surfers are advised to remain out of the water and avoid the area. It is unknown at this time when the beach will be reopened. Authorities are working to remove the vessel and contain any fuel spill. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
