Hilo man charged with meth trafficking and other offenses

A Hilo man is in police custody after being found in a stolen truck with drugs in his possession. The truck, a 1999 Toyota pickup, was stolen from Honokaʻa on November 11. On Thursday (November 19), Puna District officers located the truck being driven on Kulani Road at the intersection with Ekena Street.

Inmate fails to return to Hale Nani Reintergration Center

Hawaii furlough inmate Scottie Yanagawa failed to return from a day pass to the Hale Nani Reintegration Center. Yanagawa left this morning and was scheduled to return at 2 p.m. State Sheriffs and Hawaii Police were notified. 29-year old Yanagawa is 5’5” tall and weighs 165 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Umauma Bridge opens to traffic again Thursday (Nov 19)

The Umauma Bridge, which was closed the past week along Highway 19, has been reopened according to the Hawaii Police Department. The bridge had been closed to allow State Highways Division crews to check the footing of the temporary bypass bridge, heavy rains delayed the inspection.
