A Hilo man is in police custody after being found in a stolen truck with drugs in his possession. The truck, a 1999 Toyota pickup, was stolen from Honokaʻa on November 11. On Thursday (November 19), Puna District officers located the truck being driven on Kulani Road at the intersection with Ekena Street.

Army officials are opening several training areas for bird hunting, here, Nov. 21-22. The Humu’ula Unit (training areas 1-4) and the Keamuku Maneuver Area will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Hawaii furlough inmate Scottie Yanagawa failed to return from a day pass to the Hale Nani Reintegration Center. Yanagawa left this morning and was scheduled to return at 2 p.m. State Sheriffs and Hawaii Police were notified. 29-year old Yanagawa is 5’5†tall and weighs 165 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

The Umauma Bridge, which was closed the past week along Highway 19, has been reopened according to the Hawaii Police Department. The bridge had been closed to allow State Highways Division crews to check the footing of the temporary bypass bridge, heavy rains delayed the inspection.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for the east facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 a.m. Friday (Nov 20). Surf is forecast to be in the 5-8 foot range along east facing shores of Hawaii Island. The strong trade winds are generating the advisory level surf.
