Police DUI stats for the week of October 26-November 1, 2015

During the week of October 26, 2015, through November 1, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 900 DUI arrests compared with 969 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,268 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,330 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.7 percent.

So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 45.5 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
