Police DUI stats for the week of October 19-25, 2015

During the week of October 19, 2015, through October 25, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 875 DUI arrests compared with 941 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,241 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,297 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.3 percent.

So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 45.5 percent.

To date, 10 fatalities were related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
