Police DUI stats for the week of September 7-13, 2015

During the week of September 7, 2015, through September 13, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and one was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 743 DUI arrests compared with 839 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,043 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,132 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.9 percent.

So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.

To date, nine fatalities related to drugs (6), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
