Police Special Response Team respond to incident Friday (Sept 4)

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a domestic violence incident that was reported on Friday evening (September 4) at a home in Volcano.

Puna Patrol Officers responded to a report of an argument between a husband, 41-year-old Ben L. Domingo, and his wife that escalated into a critical incident due to Domingo possessing a firearm.

The Special Response Team responded while members of the Crisis Negotiation Team communicated with the occupants of the residence throughout the night, and on Saturday morning (September 5) deescalated the situation and Domingo was arrested for several criminal offenses.

No major road closures occurred and nearby residences were evacuated during this incident.

Domingo was arrested at the residence by Puna Patrol officers and later charged by Criminal Investigation Division detectives with (4) felony counts of Terroristic Threatening I, a misdemeanor count of a Violation of a Protection Order, (2) felony counts of Ownership Prohibited, and a felony count of Kidnapping. His total bail was set at $117,000. He was unable to post bail and his initial court appearance will be Tuesday afternoon (September 8).
