Police DUI stats for the week of August 17-23, 2015

During the week of August 17, 2015, through August 23, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 674 DUI arrests compared with 769 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 971 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,028 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.5 percent.

So far this year, there have been 15 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with nine during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.

To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
