Man shot while trying to run over officers and sheriffs, is charged with attempted murder

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a Mountain View man for several offenses stemming from an incident that occurred on Thursday (Aug 20), at a residence on Mauna Lani Track Road in Mountain View.

Jomal Ford, a 37-year-old man, was charged with four counts of attempted murder in the First Degree, and one count of Resist Order to Stop, his bail has been set at $2,001,000.

The charges stem from Ford attempting to run over two Sheriffs and a Police Officer, with the fourth Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree charge involving attempting to kill more than one person.

Ford was initially taken to Hilo Medical Center for his gunshot wound, but was released late Thursday night. He is presently being held at the Hilo Police Cellblock until he is arraigned in court. The Sheriff that was struck by Ford’s vehicle was also treated at Hilo Medical Center and released late Thursday night.
