State Sheriffs on the Big Island of Hawaii captured missing extended furlough inmate Donald Soares Wednesday (Aug 19). The arrest happened at about 7:15 a.m. in the Puna District.

Soares failed to report to a Kona extended furlough house for his scheduled check-in on the evening of July 30.

Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times throughout the month.

Soares is classified as community custody. He is serving time for burglary and theft. Escape 2 is expected to be added to his charges. His next parole hearing was scheduled for November.
