Police are searching for a Kurtistown man wanted for an armed burglary

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 50-year-old man wanted for an armed burglary.

At 7:45 p.m. Friday (August 7), a man identified as William Chase of Kurtistown went to a home on Uau Road in Kurtistown and reportedly brandished a firearm at the 19-year-old male acquaintance who answered the door. He then reportedly forced his way into the house and threatened a 44-year-old woman, a teenage boy and a teenage girl with the weapon and then left in a gray Toyota pickup truck.

He is described as 5-foot-8, 200 pounds with short gray balding hair. He may have a mustache and beard.

Members of the public are cautioned not to approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Instead, anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Todd Pataray at 961-2382 or todd.pataray@hawaiicounty.gov.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
