Police DUI stats for the week of July 27-August 2, 2015

During the week of July 27, 2015, through August 2, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 599 DUI arrests compared with 713 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 877 major accidents so far this year compared with 932 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.9 percent.

So far this year, there have been 13 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, an increase of 62.5 percent.

To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
