Police DUI stats for the week of July 6-12, 2015

During the week of July 6, 2015, through July 12, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 533 DUI arrests compared with 647 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 790 major accidents so far this year compared with 837 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.6 percent.

So far this year, there have been 13 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with eight during the same period last year, an increase of 62.5 percent.

To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
