Police DUI stats for the week of June 22-28, 2015

During the week of June 22, 2015, through June 28, 2015, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 492 DUI arrests compared with 614 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 729 major accidents so far this year compared with 769 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been 12 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, an increase of 71.4 percent.

To date, seven fatalities were related to drugs (4), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
