Police investigating burglary of safe containing firearms, jewelry and cash

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help with information about a burglary in February in the Sunrise Ridge subdivision in Hilo.

At 1:30 p.m. on February 2, police responded to a report of a burglary that happened on Hoʻokina Place.

Police learned that a safe containing 12 rifles, three handguns, miscellaneous jewelry and a large amount of cash had been removed from the house. Value of the items is estimated at $22,500.

Police ask anyone with any information about this incident or anyone who may know the identity of the suspect to call the Police Departments non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or dean.uyetake@hawaiicounty.gov.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
