A rockfall into Halemaumau’s lava lake Tuesday morning (April 28) caused an explosion of lava sending molten lava and fragments 280 feet up onto the old observation area. Tuesday evening about 9 p.m. webcams recorded the lava lake overflowing onto Halemamau crater’s floor.

Hawaiʻi Island police have located 23-year-old Kalyp Rapoza of Hilo, who was wanted on warrants and for questioning in a terroristic threatening investigation. Rapoza was arrested Friday night and charged with contempt of court, violating terms of release and discharge of sureties.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 2.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.09/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.54/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

William Frederick Combs, also known as Richard Wayne Kowski, also known as Tony Eugene Combs, was last seen in Kailua-Kona in January.
