Voice of Teresa Ahyo interviewed by Baron Sekiya | Hawaii 24/7

Three people were injured when their small plane crashed about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday (April 14) at Hilo International Airport.

Teresa Ahyo, who lives next to the airport, heard the plane flying overhead while she was in her garage then heard the engine backfiring followed by the crash. Ahyo said there was no fire, airport rescue crews were the first on scene and got three people out of the aircraft.

The single-engine Cessna 172M was built in 1973 and is registered to Barlow Aviation.

The injured pilot and two passengers were taken via medic units to Hilo Medical Center.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
