Hilo home destroyed by fire Sunday (April 12)

Firefighters responded to a 2:10 a.m. alarm Sunday (April 12) about 1.5 miles up Amauulu Road in Hilo for a structure fire.

Crews arrived to find an older single family home engulfed in flames. The home was located at the end of an unpaved, difficult to access road for fire crews. The resident of the home was waiting with police for the firefighters.

Fire dispatch reported the fire out at 5:39 a.m. and the Red Cross was responding to assist anyone displaced by the loss of the home.

The loss of the home is estimated to be $100,000 and there were no injuries reported in the blaze.
