Kona man is charged with meth trafficking and other offenses

A Captain Cook man was charged with meth trafficking and other offenses after police executed a search warrant at his house Monday (March 16).

The search warrant was executed at a home on the 84-1000 block of Bruner Road in Captain Cook, where police recovered 44.1 grams of a crystalline substance packaged in a manner consistent with meth distribution, paraphernalia associated with meth use and sales, an unregistered .22-caliber rifle and $1,221 in cash.

Police arrested 33-year-old Matthew Cummings at the scene and took him to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Vice Section continued the investigation.

At 3:05 p.m. Tuesday (March 17), detectives charged him with meth trafficking, promoting a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia, and three firearms offenses. His bail was set at $68,000.

He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday (March 18).
