The National Weather Service in Honolulu reports winds have gradually weakened on Big Island summits but are still strong enough for a wind advisory to be issued until 6 p.m. this evening (March 13).

Winds are coming from the northwest at 30-50 mph with localized gusts over 60 mph.

The strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving. The winds can also forcefully swing doors open or shut so use caution when opening or closing vehicle doors.

Mauna Kea summit access road is closed above the Visitor Information Station due to heavy accumulations of snow and ice on all summit roads.
