Following a rigorous review of bids submitted as part of a competitive bid process, Hawai‘i Electric Light Company has selected Ormat to provide an additional 25 MW of geothermal energy for Hawai‘i Island. Military convoys between Kawaihae and PTA (Feb 23-28)

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy between Kawaihae Harbor and Pōhakuloa Training Area, Feb. 23-28, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Convoys will travel from PTA to Kawaihae, Feb. 23-24. Convoys will also travel from Kawaihae to PTA, Feb. 24-28. Military police will escort the convoys.

Fire/rescue units responded to a 9:44 p.m. alarm Sunday (Feb 22) for a structure fire at 15-2786 Ahi Street in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision area of Puna.

Crews arrived to find a single-story home engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the fire under control by 10 p.m. and it was declared out at 11:30 p.m.

The home was destroyed with the loss estimated at $130,000. There were no injuries reported in the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 2.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.04/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has increased 4.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.29/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
