Helicopter rescue in Kona after high surf, currents carry man off-shore

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:33 p.m. alarm Saturday (Jan 3) to Honl’s Beach Park in Kona for an ocean rescue.

A 22-year-old man from Dover, Massachusetts was swimming at Honl’s Beach Park when currents pulled him about 200 yards off-shore. Two surfers paddled out to the man with surfboards to assist. A fire department personnel swam out to the trio and stayed with them until everyone was airlifted to shore by Chopper two.

The rescued men did not require any medical treatment.

Remember this story, and all the other rescues for those of you who think that ‘bad guys” are in helicopters! Not everyone in a helicopter wants to bust your pot farm.
