Teen who drowned at Hapuna Beach is identified

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the body recovered from an underwater cavern system near Hapuna Beach on Wednesday (December 17) as 13-year-old Gwyneth Agustin Borromeo, also known as Jayson, of Waikoloa.

An autopsy conducted Thursday (December 18) determined the cause of his death was due to salt water drowning.

Borromeo was last seen alive Sunday afternoon (December 14) near the southern edge of Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area.
