Kona Task Force on Feeding the Hungry golf tourney (Nov. 29)

MEDIA RELEASE

The Kona Task Force on Feeding the Hungry (Meet and Eat) is a community-based program designed to feed the growing number of our needy population. It has two feedings a week, Mondays from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Hale Halawai Park on Alii Drive and Wednesdays from 6 – 7 p.m. at Kealakehe Intermediate School Cafeteria.

This year marks the 22nd year of service to the community, which features the annual Thanksgiving dinner (this year – Wednesday, Nov. 26), and the organization also celebrating a landmark 200,000 meals served.

As the organization currently is approximately $4,500 in arrears in payments, it are in need of community kokua to help pay off debts and continue to provide meals for the hungry in our community.

The needs in the community are not limited to just feeding people. As a sister organization to the Kealakehe Neighborhood Watch Program, it recognizes the importance of positive activities and events for youth, which are lacking in the community.

Organizers hope the golf tournament will address some of these needs.

The format for this tournament will be a best ball two person team with the majority of teams comprised of adults and youth. It will be a time of instruction and bonding and will spark an interest in youth to get involved in this sport.

Pros, amateurs and non-golfers are invited and the purpose is to have fun and encourage the juniors.

Proceeds will go toward paying off debt and the remainder of the funds will go to The Food Basket to help other agencies that have problems raising funds to clear their outstanding balances in order to continue providing services that are much needed in the community.

The organization is in need of silent auction donations and event
sponsorship. Organizers are happy to coordinate pickup of items and contributions.

Suggested sponsorship can range from $250 from an individual to $2,000 for a corporation, a gift to each player (120 golfers projected), or a major prize for a hole-in-one at a par three hole or an eagle at a par five hole.

Corporate sponsors are encouraged to have company representatives on hand at the hole with banners, mascots or entertainment.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. followed by shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Let organizers know of any needs or special requests (to be shuttled up with equipment or tents, etc.)

Make all checks payable to:
