Police DUI stats for the week of October 20-26, 2014

During the week of October 20, 2014, through October 26, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 944 DUI arrests compared with 1,063 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,282 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,116 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.9 percent.

So far this year, there have been 10 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a decrease of 56.5 percent.

To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
