Police are searching for a Keaau man wanted in several cases

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 34-year-old Keaʻau man wanted in connection with several abuse of a family or household member, terroristic threatening and firearms cases.

Abraham Verece is described as 5-foot-8, 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a medium build and has at times had his hair cut very short. He is known to frequent the Puna area.

Police ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to call Sergeant William Derr at 965-2716 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Police ask members of the public not to approach Verece, as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
