Kailua Park traffic-safety measures (Aug. 29-Sept. 11)

MEDIA RELEASE

Starting Friday, Aug. 29, the county Department of Parks and Recreation will implement temporary traffic-safety measures at Kailua Park, also known as Old Kona Airport Park, to accommodate the E.K. Fernandez Big Island Fair 2014.

Vehicular traffic entering Kailua Park will be diverted to the beach access road located at the north end of Kuakini Highway. This is being done to provide for the safety of park users, fair attendees, and fair operators setting up and disassembling carnival rides.

The Department of Parks and Recreation asks all motorists to follow the temporary 5 mph speed limit while driving along the park’s beach access road. This speed limit will be in effect until normal traffic patterns are reinstated on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 11.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for its understanding while these temporary safety measures are implemented.
