Police DUI stats for the week of August 4-10, 2014

During the week of August 4, 2014, through August 10, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 726 DUI arrests compared with 765 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 949 major accidents so far this year compared with 840 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent.

So far this year, there were 8 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 21 during the same period last year, a decrease of 61.9 percent.

To date, 5 fatalities were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
