Police DUI stats for the week of July 28-August 3, 2014

During the week of July 28, 2014, through August 3, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 29 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Ten of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 712 DUI arrests compared with 724 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 923 major accidents so far this year compared with 813 during the same period last year, an increase of 13.5 percent.

So far this year, there have been eight traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 19 during the same period last year, a decrease of 57.9 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
