Police DUI stats for July 21-27, 2014

During the week of July 21, 2014, through July 27, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 683 DUI arrests compared with 701 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 891 major accidents so far this year compared with 790 during the same period last year, an increase of 12.8 percent.

So far this year, there have been eight traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 19 during the same period last year, a decrease of 57.9 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
