Police DUI stats for July 14-20, 2014

During the week of July 14, 2014, through July 20, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 664 DUI arrests compared with 676 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 856 major accidents so far this year compared with 772 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.9 percent.

So far this year, there have been eight traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 19 during the same period last year, a decrease of 57.9 percent.

To date, five fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
