Fire/rescue crews responded to an 11:39 a.m. alarm Friday (June 27) to a structure fire at 143 Kualua Place in Kaumana.
Crews arrived to find a single story three-bedroom home with the front half on fire along with vehicle burning in the carport. Flames and smoke were coming out of the roof area at the back of the home. Crews worked to protect neighboring homes from the fire while getting the blaze under control by 12:07 p.m. The fire declared out at 2:03 p.m.
There was nobody home at the time of the fire according to the owner who said her son lived at the residence. Firefighers were able to rescue a four-week-old puppy from a back bedroom of the home.
The loss of the 1,700 square foot home was estimated to be $150,000. The roadways in the area were blocked as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and protect nearby homes.
The Red Cross responded to assist the residents of the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
