Rescue crews searched the shoreline fronting Malama Flats near MacKenzie State Park for a missing 56-year-old fisherman who was last seen 9 p.m. Friday (June 6) in the area. Witnesses said the man was swept out to sea after either slipping or being washed off a 10-foot cliff by a wave.
Searchers used a fire department rescue boat with divers, fire department and Coast Guard helicopters, the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska and ground crews to search between Pohoiki to Kaimu Beach for the fisherman who was reported to be wearing black rain gear.
The search was suspended due to darkness and will resume at daybreak Sunday (June 8).
